Throwback Thursday- part 1

Wes —  March 31, 2011 — 4 Comments

We’re introducing a new weekly feature here at American Jesus called Throwback Thursdays.  Each thursday we will dig deep into the vaults of Christian Music and revisit their “glory.”

Our first entry?  ”I Luv Rap Music,” by DC Talk.  It’s still amazing to consider the diversity that can be seen across the arc of their career.  I mean, how is the group in the video below the same group who released “Jesus Freak” just a few years later?

This Is A Real Headline….

Apparently acronyms in the Philippines don’t mean the same thing they mean in the United States. Either that or they are using 16 year old boys as journalists.

How To Become A Christian

Combine an old school, tried and true salvation formula with a monotonous telemarketer voice, throw in some animation for a little flavor and you’ve got the recipe for a truly amazing salvation pitch. And by amazing I mean awful.

Couple of highlights though:

1)This YouTuber may the greatest YouTube name ever: w8n4rapture2day

2)What this video lacks in style, substance, and overall common sense it makes up for with killer writing:

“Everyone, including Americans, Muslims, Jews, Catholics, Hindus, Buddhists, Asians, Presbyterians, Europeans, Baptist, Brazilians, Mormons, Methodists, French, etc…..have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.”

It’s a line so nice he uses it twice!

Enjoy…

Here at American Jesus, we assume that we have many illiterate fans that come to our site for the pretty pictures and occasional puppet video.  On their behalf, we would like to present a dramatic stage performance of one of Jack Chick’s finest works, “The Thief.”

God Hates Jesus

At least that seems to be the theology of Tim Conway, apparent buddy of Paul Washer.

When you get two great minds like that together, rip a verse out of the Bible, and read your fundamentalist perspective into it great theology is bound to happen.

Since we’re ripping random verses out of the Bible, why not keep this one in mind while you watch the video below: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son….

Love Wins: A One Sentence Review

Zack —  March 28, 2011 — 3 Comments

There are SOOOO many reviews out there now of Rob Bell’s new book Love Wins that it can be really hard to wade through all of them.

We here at American Jesus have decided to help you save some time by writing a very concise review which pretty much sums up the book along with most of the controversy surrounding it.

So, without further ado here is our 1 sentence review:

If you’re a Calvinist you probably won’t like Rob Bell’s new book Love Wins, which is ironic since he also affirms predestination, albeit a slightly different version.

Have you ever watched a horror movie, and simply laughed because of all the unsaved heathens being slaughtered by the villain du jour?  Lord knows we have, and it’s mainly because we know that Christians have built-in defense mechanisms against zombies, aliens, frankensteins, and werewolves.

Finally, a church has put together a video illustrating Christian horror invincibility.  Enjoy!

Fundie Friday – part 27

Looking for a conversation starter so you can tell strangers that they’re going to hell?

As usual Ray Comfort (or at least one of his cronies) is here to help.

Here’s the Way of the Master description for this tutorial: “This is a quick demonstration of how the curved illusion tracts work. It is a great icebreaker sure to get some laughs a smile and it is a great set up for transitioning from the natural to the supernatural.”

Honestly, I’m just lost on this one. I have no idea why anyone would think that this optical illusion is entertaining, let alone humorous or why it makes sense as a set up for “by the way did you know you are going to hell?”

I honestly had to watch this video 2 or 3 times before I could believe what I was hearing.

Paul Washer’s advice for people suffering with depression: “instead of letting [your] heart preach to [you]..[you] ought to preach God’s word to [your] heart”

Paul Washer’s advice to people counseling those who are depressed: “rebuke them”

If you have someone in your life that suffers from depression or if you yourself suffer with depression then we HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you watch this video far enough away that you can’t punch the screen and break your computer.

Yeah, we’re just gonna leave this here…
