What happens when a church needs its members to tithe more and the pastoral staff has a video camera and too much time on their hands?

This happens….

If I did believe tithing was for today, that video would probably make me stop.

Care to elaborate on tithing not being for today? I’m not trolling. Actually curious. But yes, this video is ridiculous.

I believe tithing was for the Old Covenant as a means of providing for the Levites. The New Covenant calls us to a life of generosity that sees everything as belonging to God, therefore the tithe is just a start. I’m not against giving to a ministry, although I do believe churches mis-spend much of the money on buildings, programs, etc. I do see a problem with preaching that applies Old Covenant practices and promises to the church. Keith Giles at subversive1 does a better job of explaining this than I do.

    Dumb dumberererer and dumbestest

Hard for a church to try to explain that if you don’t tithe you are cursed but try to explain that Christ redeemed you from the curse of the Law

For those that believe that tithing wasn’t part of the law but a principle to prove God is first in your life then you elevate the tithe above the Cross and your act of tithing/ what you do above what Christ did on the Cross as He first loved us.

I like how one minister puts it in giving to the Church

If you can come and say, “Father we have needs and I’m standing on what the Lord Jesus did.” “I’m resting in a work called the Cross, wherein He finished the work and took all poverty there.” “I’m trusting in the cross and that alone, I thank you that our needs are met based upon what Jesus did.” “Thank you Father, the seed we have sown will bless others, but you’re our God and you’re our sufficiency and our supply, I’m trusting in that and that alone;” then you’re on solid ground because you are trusting only in Father and not in uncertain riches. If you trust in your giving, then you will become haughty and high minded; to be haughty means to live out of your head, your thoughts of your self importance. There is a lot of confusion in the Church concerning tithe and offerings.

There is a lot of preaching and teaching along these lines that rob us of faith. Don’t trust your giving; trust Father God. Put what you do as secondary.
